Are There Medications Against Dependency on Gadgets?
As I write this blog, I have my Google Talk on while I help my daughter do her book report. Shortly before that, I had to yank the iPod ear buds out of her ears to start the report. Meanwhile, my T-Mobile Dash chimes indicating I have a new email. So curious as always, I run to see what it is. As if I’m going to do anything about it! I have formed these habits that after time start to feel as cozy as my favorite doll when I was a child. Is this over the top? I always ask myself that as my family members ask me, “What are you looking at on your phone?” Why do we form these crazy relationships with our gadgets? I guess one reason may be because they keep us connected 24-7. Is that a good thing while on vacation though? Probably not, and I often find myself turning off my phone or at least trying to every time we go away. I’m usually successful at it. Bottom line is there is nothing wrong with having a fascination with gadgets or even using them all the time when you know that they are just that – gadgets. When you can’t put them down and they start to affect you and your family, then it’s time to wake up and realize the root of the fascination! Until then, use them and have fun.
