Meet Joe Black…again
The other night I watched the movie Meet Joe Black with Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt and Claire Forlani. I saw this movie when it first came out, but watching it 10 years later really brought a whole new perspective to life. Did you ever watch a movie and then watch it again and you caught all new things you never caught the first time? Well, that’s what happened to me. That movie is full of life lessons. If you haven’t seen it, I will give you a brief overview. It’s about a very successful man (Anthony Hopkins) who is approaching retirement at 65. He starts hearing voices, and then the Grim Reaper appears in his life telling him it’s his time to die. This is no ordinary Grim Reaper…oh no! It’s Brad Pitt! I won’t go into the details, but the Grim Reaper strikes up a bargain with Anthony Hopkins telling him that he’ll let him live a little longer if he shows him around the world. Enter Claire Forlani, Anthony’s daughter. The Grim Reaper (a.k.a. Brad Pitt) winds up falling in love with her. It gets complicated, but the most important things about the movie are that the age old cliches of living life to the fullest or living each day as if it was your last day are really highlighted in this movie. Having watched the movie a more “mature” person continuously reminds me of how short life is and how we should never be afraid of our hopes and dreams. So if you are reading this post and have unfulfilled dreams or ideas, reach out for them now! Nothing is worse than living a life of woulda, coulda, shoulda’s.
